182 South Main Street's top floor was first built to house an annex for the neighboring Newhouse Hotel. The main storefront originally contained a furniture store, followed by other iterations as a cafe as well as various other businesses. The lower floor, which is currently home to our visiting artist's living quarters and studio, began as a pool hall and bar, the remnants of which can still be seen on the walls.
